American Petroleum Institute (API)
The American Petroleum Institute (API) represents about 400 companies involved in a full range of activities to do with oil, including exploration, drilling, production, refining and distribution of finished products.

It functions on behalf of the industry include negotiation with governmental, legal, and regulatory agencies; research into economic, toxicological, and environmental effects; establishment and certification of industry standards; and education.

Standards

The API publishes a very wide range of standards and guidance documents. Some of these are discussed below. 

  • Recommended Practice 75 for Development of a Safety and Environmental Management Program for Offshore Operations and Facilities and the associated Safety and Environmental Management Program (SEMP).

Center for Offshore Safety
